Adopt-an-Alleyway

Chinatown CDC created the Adopt-An-Alleyway (AAA) Youth Project in 1991 as part of the neighborhood service and empowerment program in response to the lack of youth services targeted at our community. Our intent was to promote youth leadership and community involvement through youth-initiated and led neighborhood service activities.

AAA youth presently organizes monthly neighborhood clean-ups and alleyway beautification work, services to elderly tenants that live in low-income or residential hotel housing and daycare for younger children of low-income families, while their parents receive training on housing, employment and health issues.?The AAA youth also write and produce a yearly newsletter, The Alleyway Monitor, to educate people about community and environmental issues in Chinatown.
