Ping Yuen Residents Improvement Association PYRIA
Chinatown CDC provides on-going technical assistance to the Ping Yuen Residents Improvement Association (PYRIA), one of the most established public housing tenant-led organizations in the City that was one of the five grassroots organizations that founded the Chinatown CDC.
Over the past 22 years, Chinatown CDC has assisted PYRIA in bringing about many improvements to the Ping Yuen public housing development. These improvements include:
Self-sufficiency and Economic Development
Chinatown CDC assisted PYRIA to set up and run a Laundromat that generates revenue for tenant activities and to create a computer training center. We have recreational activities and other services such as office hours that provides English-Chinese translation and housing counseling services, Parents' Day to celebrate both mother's and father's day, picnic, and Christmas party.
Physical Improvements:
Chinatown CDC assisted the renovation of three Ping Yuen playgrounds, creation of the Ping Yuen Mural on Stockton Street, refurbishment of its community gardens, and painting of the building's interior.
Safety:
Chinatown CDC helped PYRIA advocate to the San Francisco Housing Authority to put in gates and provide private security guards for the complex.
