Chinatown Land Use Monitoring

One of Chinatown CDC's core functions is to monitor land use developments in and near Chinatown to ensure that proposed developments will be beneficial to our community. We monitor land use changes to ensure compliance with the Chinatown Rezoning Plan, which calls for the preservation of existing housing, maintaining the neighborhood's scale and context, and promoting community serving benefits such as additional affordable housing, community institutions, and open space. Many of the policies adopted in the Chinatown Rezoning Plan in 1987 stemmed from the Chinatown Community Plan that Chinatown CDC co-authored in 1985.
We are knowledgeable about the City's planning processes and environmental review, and have negotiated with many prospective developers to achieve more community benefits and/or mitigations to proposed developments in order to protect and enhance Chinatown.
